While at the Department of Justice, Robert was awarded the Merit Award for his contributions to the Department.

While at Alberta Justice, he quickly earned a reputation as a tenacious and able prosecutor particularly in relation to child sexual assault and impaired driving offences. As a result, Robert was asked to lecture to his colleagues on DUI prosecutions.

In 1997, Robert left Alberta Justice, taking his many years of prosecutorial experience with him and returned to defending DUI charges.
